Good afternoon all !

Another photo for you all to think about !!

Whaley Bridge Council School 1st XI of 1931-2

Teacher:  Mr Presley   (my version of wolf-whistle !)

Back row L-R:  Donald Locket, Fred Lee, Arnold Cooper, George Hill, George Reekie, Gilbert Mellor (?)

Middle row:  Sam Shaw, Alan Bradbury, Alan Collier

Front row:  Charlie Allen, Frank Derby, Bill Jones

My Dad isn't too sure if he is right about Gilbert Mellor - if anyone knows any different we would love to know.

Hello Gnats,

Blimey I have never seen that before but one of my relations, sadly no longer with us, is on it and I recognised him immediately even though I only knew him as an adult. He is the spit of his younger brother.

A couple of acquaintances are also on there but disappointingly no Rodney Trotter or the time travelling Gary Sparrow.

I think Charlie Allen better known as Clive went on to play for Spurs and as you know Mr Presley went on to play in Memphis.

Wonderful. Thank you.

Hi R S-S

Thought that one would get you back on the board !!

Iwas impressed that you recognised one of your relatives on the picture, one of mine was sitting right next to me and I still couldn't pick him out !!

I found this photo "by accident" would you believe, and we had a nice half-hour trying to sort out who was who.  I am absolutely "made-up" to come across it, especially as my brother is home and all three of us were able to have a discussion about it.  History on legs !! (otherwise, from the horse's mouth). .

I know a couple of people on the photo (and of course I'm only 21 !) Freddie Lee I remember as the postman in the late-50's-early 60's, and Alan Collier lived on Jodrell Meadow with his wife Betty and son Trevor. Alan was a great family friend, and my Dad's best man.

R.S-S, I love the humour - keep it coming !!!

Hi - new to the forum - just doing a bit of random family tree digging and came across this posting.  Thought you'd like to know that Gilbert Mellor is my father, I've just checked with him and he confirms that it is he in this photo. Sorry it's taken me a year to find your post!

Best wishes,

Paul Mellor
