Thanks: 3 times

Zooming in on this photo shows some interesting details.  To the left of the Church can be seen the carriages if a train in North Western livery dating the picture pre 1923. Follow the line of railway to the right and the Buxton Road railway bridge can be glimpsed as well as a signal.  There is some sort of gantry just above the church roof; could this be at the pithead ?   Is that Whaley Hall faintly visible to the right of the reservoir ?  I suppose the chimney must be Goyt Mill although it appears to be too close to the church.

Whaley Hall

Dear David,

What a pleasant suprise,  it is so good to see pictures of Whaley Bridge, from the past and I am sure that many people out their, have got a fine selection that they may like to share with us all on this forum.

David do you know what year the picture was taken ?

Do you think it was around 1910 perhaps.

The picture also shows the Hall as you had thought.

Best wishes

Jamie

That's a good picture.

It looks like what you can see above the church roof is the top of the shear legs apparatus at the pithead, and the chimney is probably the colliery chimney.

You can see some more pictures of the colliery via this link
