Hi all, new to the forum, but have an interest in Whaley, brought about by years of visiting with my children. To this day. Toddbrook is one of the loveliest places to take a stroll and has a special place in the hearts of myself, my wife and children. One day - hopefully - we hope to move there.

Anyway, a question. what was on the site where the Tesco now sits? Was it a woodland, and if so, did it have a public access?

It was a meadow and a Site of Special Scientific Interest. But not so special that it not be sold off for profit. Mind you the new bridge over the Goyt was a big inducement to grant permission for the change.
The optimist believes that Whaley Bridge is the best place in the world to live. The pessimist fears he might be correct.

That was not posted 'about 12 hours ago'. What's going on here, the forum is so inaccurate. Hate the new format.

Hover the mouse over "about 12 hours ago" and it will show you the exact time it was posted. There are pros and cons for both methods of presentation. The exact time suits precision nerds like me. The descriptive form makes it easier to grasp just how out of date a post is.

So that is why he takes a measuring jug to the pub with him!UserPostedImageUserPostedImage

I agree with the comments about the forum. It seems, these days, that everything that is "Improved" usually looks like a step backward.UserPostedImage

Hog's field, we knew it as. Played football there many times. - Charlie  (also new to the forum, lived in Whaley until 1985)
