It should be very easy to enforce a ban - A sign at the Reservoir Road park entrance - A sign on the bridge over Toddbrook - Enforced by the Park Ranger.
Have a word with him - I'm sure he would love to work 7 days a week, 24 hours a day.

Allowing dogs to run about freely in the park is antisocial; behaviour. I have been bitten several times by dogs but never by an under age drinker. Edited by user 18 November 2014 17:16:14(UTC)

The optimist believes that Whaley Bridge is the best place in the world to live. The pessimist fears he might be correct. |

I haven't been bitten by underage drinkers either. I have had my car wing mirrors smashed though. I'm sorry to hear you have been bitten several times, I hope you weren't seriously hurt. The owners of the dog/s that bit you are accountable for that and that should be dealt with. I am not particularly on one side or the other, just think that we really do not need an outright ban.

What does the Whaley Bridge Park Ranger currently do and why would he need to work 7 days a week 24 hours a day?

I think around £90,000 was retained from the lottery money to pay a salary for a new position of Park Ranger initially for five years. I don't know what the Park Ranger does to justify this income but I guess he should be in the Memorial Park during working hours so he should be available to enforce a ban on dogs.

May be he's the lone ranger, as I've never seen him!

He's called Paul, is always there when I do the school run and I often see him very early in the morning too. He has been very helpful to man and beast (arranged the rescue of a badger from the skate park pit this week!). It would be nice if there were some more positive comments on this forum.

I agree. The most positive comment would be if someone is able to post something along the lines of -
After the introduction of the New Dog Control Orders it can be confirmed that dogs off leads have been banned from Whaley Bridge Memorial Park and Football Pitches.

Glad to hear that the badger was rescued. I know someone has been rescuing toads from the pit all through summer as well.

Or maybe the same toad many times!
Seriously though, this looks like a design problem and if it is trapping wildlife shouldn't someone be looking at a permanent solution?

I agree with you tarboat. Don't know if it was the same toad - I never asked for a name! I watched a chap one Sunday morning removing about six of them from the pit, and he told me he specifically walked that way every day so he could get any toads out that had fallen in overnight. Not good is it. Particularly if wild mammals like badgers or foxes are now falling in, as fear and panic, which being stuck in a pit would naturally induce, can make them quite aggressive.

I hope the ban is introduced before a child is injured and not after.
