The next meeting is on Tuesday November 5th at 7.30pm.  Doors open 7.pm. No fireworks I'm afraid.
The speaker is Donald Reid on the subject of "Curious Cheshire" A look at some of the unusual and interesting things that can be found in the county.
The venue, as always is Furness Vale Community Centre and admission is £1 for guests. Everybody welcome.

The February Meeting is on Tuesday 4th at 7.30pm.  Presented by Derek Brumhead, this is the story of the railways of New Mills and district that have since been lost or were proposed but never constructed. Everybody welcome at Furness Vale Community Centre. Admission £1 including refreshments.

The  next meeting is on Tuesday 4th March when Glen Atkinson returns with a talk on the inventions and "firsts" from the City of Salford. Glen is an entertaining and informative speaker and an interesting evening is assured.


As usual the meeting is held at Furness Vale Community Centre, Yeardsley Lane at 7.30pm. Admission £1 including refreshments.

Furness Vale Local History Society meets on Tuesday 3rd June at 7.30pm. 
Some 30 addresses in Furness Vale have been shops or similar businesses and David Easton will tell of their history in his illustrated talk "Shops and Pubs in Furness Vale".
The meeting is held at Furness Vale Community Centre, Yeardsley Lane and admission is £1 for guests.

The new season of Furness Vale History Society starts with a talk by Neil Mullineux of Marple Local History Society. Neil will take us on a guided tour of 17th Century Marple Hall. This was once the home of John Bradshaw who is famous for signing the death warrant of Charles I. The remains of the hall are now within the grounds of Marple Hall School.

The next meeting of Furness Vale History Society on 7th October features a talk by Geoff Wild "My life in print", a story of the newspaper business in Manchester.  We will hear the history of publishing and printing in the City together with anecdotes about working in the industry. Furness Vale Community Centre 7.30pm. Admission £1.50

LOST GLOSSOP

Next month we welcome the return of a popular speaker, David Frith.  His subject this time will be "Lost Glossop".  David has a vast collection of photographs from the area and will tell us the history of each scene.  The meeting on Tuesday 4th November is at Furness Vale Community Centre at 7.30pm.  Admission is £1.50 including refreshments. The licenced bar will also be open.

The June meeting is Tuesday next, the 2nd at 7.30pm. Donald Reid gives an illustrated talk on our local packhorse trails. The routes taken by the salt traders through Cheshire and Derbyshire.
