Shallcross,

My very sincere and grateful thanks for the photo of Park Hall Pool that you have placed in the library.
What memories that brings back for me. Simply wonderful.

By the way just up stream from the junior pool was the dog fighting pit.
I daren’t even ask if you have a photo of that.

What a magnificent addition you are to this forum, Sir.

Park Hall Swimming Pool eh? Even just reading the name of it turns my extremities blue!

I am sure it was built in the decadent 1920s by a secret group of upper-class masochists who met in the Hall, for indulging their doubtful pleasures.

For me the memories are of "revising for my A-levels" there. Of course, being a Hayfield lad, I never paid to get in. Not that there was some  arrangement where locals were free, rather that we knew where the holes in the fence were. Hopefully sufficient (freezing cold) water has flowed under the bridge at Little Hayfield fro there to be no repercussions to this confession.

Shallcross Hall. Postcard with spelling mistake. Probably worth thousands.

Whilst googling for any photos showing the railway line from the beginning of Shallcross Incline to Fernilee.. I came across this site which I've never seen before.
I used to work for Frank Armstrong and know he had an extensive photo collection.. was especially interested in the aerial photos of Whaley and the area.
*** be warned ** there ARE a lot of pop ups on this site and the photos on it are pixellated if you try to copy them and expand, but you can apply for a better copy apparently.

The optimist believes that Whaley Bridge is the best place in the world to live. The pessimist fears he might be correct.
