Goyt Valley Round Table Annual Fireworks Display

Goyt Valley Round Table is pleased to announce its annual fireworks display to be held in the Memorial Park Whaley Bridge on 5 November 2011.

A children’s display will be fired at 6.50pm, and main display will commence at 7.30pm. The Whaley Bridge Brass band will be in attendance to entertain you all between the shows. We expect more than a thousand attendees so arrive in good time to make sure you get on the field and find your spot before the fireworks start!

We have our usual and mix of food sales, fireworks and music to enjoy. This year, the event is not ticketed, but we will be collecting donations for local charities for those who wish to contribute.

Please come and join us for an exciting evening of pyrotechnic celebrations.

For more details on Goyt Valley Round Table, its activities and the charities it supports, please visit http://www.goytvalleyroundtable.org.uk or contact our chairman Jim Austin at chairman@goytvalleyroundtable.org.uk.

Changes from last year:

Regulars at the fireworks need to know that there are some changes afoot that may affect how you make your way to the display. This year, after numerous requests, we are having a children's display. In order to make the space for this and because Round Table is short-handed this year, we are not lighting a fire. The knock-on effect is that the fireworks provider has reassessed the site and finally, after years of only just getting away with it, we have been told to close the dam path on the skate park end further back than in previous years. This means that if you are one of the people who likes to see the display from that spot, you will need to find another place to stand. The company has calculated that 30mm shells will explode at eye level and only about 20 feet from people on the parapet. The prevailing wind is supposed to carry bursts over the water, but we have had no luck with wind direction for the past three years. We will not be allowed to fire the main display if people are on the path at the skate park end of the dam and we have permission to close the path, so no arguments, please. The closure of the sailing club end of the dam remains the same. Forum readers, please tell your friends.

To help those that prefer not to watch from the park due to cost, the whole event is basically free, but we will have buckets and will be asking for donations to support future events and local charities. The donation-only format may be a one-off for this year only.

There will be music for the main display this year.

.... not lighting a bonfire on Bonfire Night? how are we going to burn Guy Fawkes?

Speak your truth quietly and clearly, and listen to others -even to the dull and the ignorant; they too have their story.

Does anyone know the Round Valley's stance on Photography at the event? I'll be bringing a tripod along for stability for exposure imaging and although I specialise in amateur photography I can see with the DSLR camera & equipment I carry how it can be misinterpreted as a professional kit.

I've fired off a couple of emails to whoever I can think would be able to answer some issues, but as of yet haven't heard any responses meaning I'm assuming photography (of any calibre) is allowed. Aswell as the necessary clothing to let myself be known i'm actually standing with the equipment. Given the time of evening and families about it can be easy for anyone to miss the fact i'm right infront of them..leading to a moment for both parties.

I'm sure there's a couple of people with similar questions given the take-off in photographic interest the past couple of years. Thanks to anyone who is able to answer any of the questions above.
