Talking of Shaw’s shop and Shaw’s collections here is a sample of that said family’s family tree:

Giles Shaw, baptized at Saddleworth 13 Oct 1811, was married at Rochdale parish church on 9 June 1839 to Martha Walshaw. He was described as a bachelor and slubber of Saddleworth, the son of James Shaw, slubber. She was the daughter of Thomas Walshaw, a dyer.

Saddleworth baptisms from 1839 to 1845 located only one child of this parentage:

1840 Sep 20 Ann dau Giles & Martha Shaw slubber of Hull Mill born May 31.

Alfred, son of Ann Shaw was born at Kettleshulme on 13 August 1859 and is to be found on the 1861 Census of Kettleshulme, living with his mother Ann, and his grandparents Giles and Martha.

On 3 March 1879, Alfred Shaw aged 20, no parentage given, was married to Hannah Gould, aged 18, the daughter of Peter Gould, a railway inspector, at Chapel-en-le-Frith parish church.

There was only one child of this marriage, namely

1879 Jul 20 Samuel son Alfred & Hannah Shaw labr of Shallcross Mill, born Jun 16 and baptised at Taxal parish church.

This Samuel married Sarah Ollerenshaw, but no attempt has been made to trace the entry.

Again there was only one child of this marriage, namely

Alfred, born Whaley Bridge in October 1900.

Alfred married Nellie Beswick in the Holy Trinity Church, Whaley Bridge in 1918.

There are three children of this marriage.

Samuel C. Shaw, born 1919. Harry Shaw, born 1927. Alan Shaw born 1942. All born Whaley Bridge.

I have the photographs of the 1918 wedding of Alfred and Nellie if anyone would like to see them although you may already have them Barry along with your photo of the Poll Tax demonstration on the Station Approach in 1990 .
