A merry christmas to one and all, and all the best for 2013.

Sadly it appears that the Moorside is to close on 21st January.

The end of an era and a blow for those employed there - best wishes to them all.

As a regular user of the Triangle gym, I will suffer some disruption in having to seek elsewhere for burning off the calories over the next 12 months.

Just been past there today. It is in its last week of operation as a hotel, sad in a way to see it go but understandable as it has become somewhat redundant in recent years. I understand it has been sold for another use, does anybody know what for?

A goal for mass murderers, apparently, or young offenders.

The latter is the popular rumour, there was a planning application some months ago but despite much searching I could never establish whether it was passed.

Rumour is, it's this:

www.wingsschool.co.uk/Wings-Cheshire/Welcome

A boarding school for kids with troubled pasts, basically.  Can see how chinese whispers turned this into a borstal... though prison for mass murderers is a bit of a stretch!

Good afternoon.

The former Moorside Hotel is ready to open as a school for children aged 9 to 18 with social, emotional and behavioural difficulties.

No sign of pensionman's mass murderers or young offenders:

At the risk of sounding uncaring, and I'm sure many will disagree with me, but reading this article makes me think that a disproportionate amount of money is spent on "children with behavioural problems". I wonder how much DCC would pay for one residential place at this "palace of a school"?.... Swimming pool, gym, squash courts..... meanwhile, the children of Whaley Bridge lost their Youth Club several years ago & the new one, which was promised to replace it, never materialised. No wonder kids congregate in the park etc, there's simply nothing for them to do!!!

I was under the impression that this was a fee paying private school but having just been on their web site it would appear that is not the case. There is a referral policy on their web site for pupils being educated in the High Peak. I'd love to know how it is being funded and what numbers they have for when they open.
