Hi all. This shrine is in a truly lovely position, and I always stop to look whenever we pass. Any history available on it? Be interested to know when it was built, why etc.

A usually reliable and serious source has contacted me with a different story about how the shrine was damaged:
"A car was stolen and taken up there it manoeuvred so that the back end was facing the shrine and it kept reversing back into the shrine. After several shunts the whole of the top of the shrine fell off and rolled about 50 yards down into the field.
The car was found the next morning just down the road, around the next bend, burnt out.
There were several photographs on the internet at the time.
It was possibly 12 months or more before the shrine was hauled back up to the road."
