Can someone explain the difference between a pub and a wine bar please.
I visit both once in a while and cannot figure it out. In both types of establishments the blokes tend to drink pints. And about the same number mainly women prefer wine.
I can't figure out the differences between a pub and a Wine bar ?
To me it's only in the title and maybe a few slightly more expensive furnishings in the wine bars. Basically it's the same range of drinks several beers on pumps.
Similar prices too.
Only thing I have noticed is in wine bars there are more blokes with scarves round there necks and no jackets the Biggles look .
So why would a wine bar be any busier than a pub if its the same products being sold ?

I would suggest that a wine bar offers a greater choice of wine than the two or three often indifferent varieties that most pubs sell.

Very saddened to read of the sale of Memories of India. Particularly in the last few years, I have enjoyed some excellent meals from there, and when we have house guests they always want to visit. I hope that the business sells quickly, that the current owner's health recovers and that the new owner continues to serve food of the same quality.

Interesting site HE,
Like Rockbanker I wish the owner a return to health and hope the restaurant continues. I had heard recently that they were going to allow customers to bring their own drinks in. The Bombay Cafe in Chinley, one of my favorite Indian restaurants round here already does that, and also has the added advantage of a greengrocers next door that often sells vegetables at ludicrously low prices, and stays open till around 8.30pm ish .
You never quite know what they might have on offer ! Recently they had sprout trees at 20p each. I love sprouts! Pineapples 50p - cauliflowers 50p.
I think they buy odd boxes at market. Anyway, half the fun of the evening is seeing what's on offer at the greengrocer. I have some great evenings, as you can tell.

Using 'Buxton' as a search term in the website you have highlighted, I see that BnG Coaches and Taxi firm are also up for sale @£549K - http://uk.businessesfors...e-Business-For-Sale.aspx

Cheers
Jon.

I would have called Eddie's a restaurant more than a wine bar.

Was it really so long ago?   ISTR he called it a Bistro.

The initials 'EB' are still there on the Chinese Takeaway's gates.

Good afternoon Radar

The subject of the current Sunlan building has previously been discussed on the history side of the forum following a question from lord cornflake.

I will highlight the thread although it may take a while for it to appear due to moderators approval being required.

My post has now surfaced from the moderators hole and the “Sunlan and the gates” topic is now on the first page of the History Forum for those who are interested.

Wine Bars are usually modern clean welcoming and sell a variety of beers wines spirits and food The pubs in Whaley - Goyt Railway Sheps - are grotty dog filled and full of foulmouthed older men Take a trip to Frankies in Disley and compare it to what Whaley has to offer #nocontest

I did just that on Sunday.  Took me twenty minutes to get a drink compared with two minutes in The Goyt.  Definitely no contest
The optimist believes that Whaley Bridge is the best place in the world to live. The pessimist fears he might be correct.

If you build more houses especially up macc road you might get your wine bar and people to use it.

I note that this week's Buxton Advertiser reports that permission has now been granted for the new wine bar on the taxi office site

Though the HPBC website still lists it as pending as of today.

Good evening.

The detailed reasons for the initial refusal of planning permission can be viewed here:

However, as RockBanker has already pointed out, planning permission has now been granted:
