To draw on the discussions about the history of local government that have been going on in the thread “Shallcross Wood Path” and those about what a great place Whaley is in “How Lucky We Are…”, it would seem that 2011 will be the 75th anniversary of the independence of much of Whaley from the empires of Chapel-en-le-Frith, Macclesfield and other foreign realms. With this anniversary year only 18 months away, maybe we could have some suggestions how best to commemorate this event. It would of course make a suitable theme for the well dressing,  we could perhaps have a ceremonial ‘beating of the bounds’ and perhaps a mass exodus of beer drinkers from one side of the river Goyt to another to remember how things were in the bad old days. Anyone else got any ideas?
