Norman Bennett took over the Furness Vale ironmongers shop from T. Cook in 1934. The photograph below shows Mrs Bennett in the doorway in 1936. The second photo shows the detail in the shop window. Zoom in to the picture and it will reveal all sorts of products on display. In the previous piocture, the name T.Cook can still be seen in the top light above the door. A "ghost" of the name can also be seen on the fascia. Mr Bennett's brother was a signwriter and this would have been a temporary job. Later the fascia was to be finished in gold leaf. He was a signwriter for the L.M.S and his accomplishments included lettering and lining the royal train.
