Today the British Library has announced the launch of an online archive of newspapers. It currently includes over 3 million pages from regional newspapers published between 1700 and 1949. The project will continue to add further pages.  This is a similar resource to that available through the DCC library service but much more extensive.  Access to the full archive is not free. The charge ranges from £7 for two days to £80 for 12 months. There is a free search which returns a very short resume of an article's content. When I have time, I shall subscribe and see what I can dig out and as usual, post the results to the Forum. In the meantime here is a sample from a Furness Vale search :

The Surveyor said he ordered the pig to be taken away, and when he went again the woman said the pig had come back on its own account with seven little pigs.
