I think that many members may not have photos of Pubs or views but may have interesting photographs of Whaley people, so here is Grace Bradbury (formally Brookes) taken on the lane opposite The Shady Oak, Fernilee when she and her husband Dan Bradbury were running the Pub.

Good morning Shallcross,

You are undoubtedly correct; there must be far more photographs of people than buildings.

I have lots of photos of people which must be of Whaley Bridge people from long ago.
Unfortunately I have not the faintest idea who most of them are.
Indeed I had three photos of our beloved Doctor Allan but had no idea the photos were of him until you told me via this forum.
Maybe I will put some ‘unknowns’ on in the near future for possible identification by amateur Sherlock’s.

In the meantime here is one that I put on a couple of years ago of Elias Wild, the milkman, and Henry Boland, rent collector for the Jodrell Estates.
They are stood outside the Bridge Street water trough.

Quick, Well Known Norm from New Mills, capture this image and put it on underneath this post before it mysteriously disappears. I haven’t got round to fathoming out your new method of posting photos as yet.

Hi shallcross

I 've just been looking at your posting no.3 of Harold Room, I don't recognise this as Harold.

I remember queueing  for hours in his shop in the 1940's and seeing him in the 1950's my memory is of a clean shaven slim man built for moving quickly, maybe my memory is faulty. Do you have any idea what year this would be or any info. where it was taken?

George

As far as I am aware this was taken at the rear of the shop and he would have been getting on in years, it came from my great uncles Harry Roome, Harolds Brother, but I don't remember Harold personally so I can't add much more.

Thanks: 1 times

Can anyone help identifying what event the attached photo is and when it was taken.  It looks like it was taken in the Mechanics, but I can't seem to put a name to any faces so I'm not quite sure why it is in our bag of family photos.

Thanks

Mrs C

Fab photo Mrs C !!

If this was a fancy dress party they don't look to be having a good time, most of them look rather miserable. I reckon its around the 1920's. I thought it might have been a pantomime but the types of costume are so diverse that I think it was probably a fancy dress party. I am looking forward to contributions on this one.

Well done, another cracker out of the bag of family photos - thank you !

I am curious about the ensigns in Curious's fancy dress pantomime photo. They appear to combine a union flag, a german flag, the french tricolour and something else, thought its hard to tell in black and white. Could it be some rare peace celebration? or a german- british marriage?

Is the guy on the left Ted Hays, his dad was the milk man who did his round on a motorcycle and sidecar?

I thought it was Charlie not Tommy but the picture is a bit before my time. It look's like the picture was taken in front of Germany breakers.
