Hi curiousraddish, Do you mean the Peak District generally or more specifically, Whaley Bridge? If the latter, then there's a hard-to-get book on the coal mines of Whaley Bridge (out of print), and also a couple of articles in the Peak District Mines Historical Society quarterly periodical that should still be readily available.

If it's more general stuff, then PDMHS are the main contact (search the web, they are easy to find and have a fairly comprehensive web site). There's also a recently updated book (amongst many others) on the Caves/Mines of Derbyshire, at least the ones where access has been agreed.

Send me a PM if you want more precise details, I'll be happy to provide them. I do quite a bit of mines exploration (it's my main hobby), but further south (Wirksworth Mines Research Group). I'm also in the Derbyshire Scout Caving team so can probably put you in touch with the right people if your interest extends to getting cold, wet and muddy :-)

Welcome to the forum Curious Radish.  You will find that in the local history section of this forum, there are numerous posts about local coal mines including phorographs. The search facility will help you to locate these. I would suggest looking for "mines", "Pits" etc or the names of specific collieries.

If I could send you a MP (Andrew Bingham) I would, he's no good for us and you may be able to do something with him.

Mr. Jackson, I don't know if you have noticed but whenever the cameras are in the House of Commons, our esteemed MP is always sat as close behind 'Call me Dave.' What do you make of that?

I've never found a way to send private messages on this forum.

If you want to make personal contact with another forum member I think you have to request their contact details from an Administrator. (Don't ask me how you do that though)!

I suspect that contact details of forum members are kept secrest to protect ones privacy.

Sorry - I use another forum that supports personal messaging, and naively assumed that this one did too!

I can post details on here if you want. Let me know - Curiousraddish - if you still want information, and if so, what information.

Cheers, Ashley

I go on 4 or 5 fora and this the only 1 without PM facility. Why?

Sorry for the thread hijack.

Hi

PM's are usefull sometimes on the technical forums that I use.  But I thought on this forum we all knew who is who anyway don't we?-I usually just ring the forum member direct.

Cheers

Barry you may know everyone but I don't. Also I doubt if Mr Ash knows curiousraddish since he has only just joined the forum. So I think the answer to your question is "No we don't".

I now have the answer to my question as well, thanks to all that replied. I must admit there must be not many forums (fora?) that do not allow PMs, maybe it is a technical issue or maybe the people of Whaley are not trusted to use it correctly.

I was being slightly tongue in cheek Snoopy as it is possible to work out who regulars are  and some of us are indeed in contact.

Perhaps Tim can let us know if the forum software used supports PM's and if so the reason the facility is not used.

Cheers
