Hi,

We have plenty of historical facts about the area but is there anyone who knows anything about historical domestic items?

I bought a couple of old irons to use as door stops and one of them has a convex base. As far as I can find out it is a "Polishing Iron" but who used it and what was polished with it?

It is marked G.Salter & Co, 6, Sylvester's patent.

It would be nice to know what it was used for.

Digger.

Has the convex bottom been added at a latter time and made of a different material before powder coating/enamaling

Cheers

No Barry. It was made that way. It is not powder coated etc. I cleaned the rust off and painted it. Perhaps I should have pointed that out?
