Evening all The scheduled clean up at the canal basin tomorrow has been postponed until the last Sunday of April, the 28th (12 noon till 3pm). We'll be following this up on the 1st and 2nd of June (the first weekend). Hoping to be conducting some dry stone walling and painting as well. All welcome. The group is concentrating its efforts tomorrow on helping the clean up over at the site of Saturday night's festivities. I hope you'll all understand this change of plan. Apologies for the short notice. Edited by user 16 April 2013 21:42:42(UTC)

I hope those participating in this clean up have thick gloves and "grabbers" to pick up the litter?
Don't forget to watch out for used needles!

theres an increasing amount of discarded rubbish and litter been thrown over the wall on the goyt side of the road on Buxton Rd. Its a whole lot more than i could manage to pick up myself and would maybe take a pick up or such,...if theres any plan to have a go at it and I,m off shift, I,m more than happy to muck in.

Digger: my 'wrong thread' edit was because I wanted to reply to Kate in the rave thread. I posted my comment in ... the 'wrong thread'. Thanks for trying to work out what I meant though. |

Big whoops. The clean up is not this weekend it's the 5th May. It is 12 till 3pm though and it will be followed by a double header on the 1st and 2nd of June, same times. Possibility of some painting activities on all three. |

I was down at Whaley playground yesterday enjoying the sunshine with my son and wife. I pulled a couple of Drinkwaters ton bags out of the runoff stream from the reservoir and put them in the bin on the toddlers playground. Another dad pulled out a rusty bike. While it has made the stream look slightly more picturesque, i'm now feeling a bit guilty about filling the kiddies dustbin.
Do you know how often it gets emptied, or if it'll be a problem having so much rubbish in it?

Very public spirited of you Ashley, so sad that fellow residents didn't share your values & dump the items there in the first place. I was walking along the canal last week towards New Mills & just past before the bridge near the Railway in Furness I counted about 40 cans/bottles thrown along a 30 yard stretch of the hedging & several empty shopping bags. How can so many people be so selfish? Looked almost deliberate.
