An ever recurring problem on the forum is the size of pictures when posting, invariably they are too big and automatically become attachments, or occasionally they might upload but we have to pan sideways to see them.
 
Thought I might start a string on preparation of images for publishing.
 
On most if not all picture editing programs have a sizing facility available in the menu as per the first image below.  Followed by a few size examples, the width is the important factor to keep in mind.
 
(As a matter of interest the picture I have used is local Col. Hall with his regiment in Chesterfield
).

Thank you for that advice, Peter, though you exagerate in saying that pictures are invariably too large.
Two usefull resources for resising images are http://www.picresize.com/ and http://sourceforge.net/projects/imgresize/
Also it is often worth converting the image to JPG format and applying some compression to reduce the file size thus speeding up the loading process
The optimist believes that Whaley Bridge is the best place in the world to live. The pessimist fears he might be correct.
