Zooming in on this photo shows some interesting details. To the left of the Church can be seen the carriages if a train in North Western livery dating the picture pre 1923. Follow the line of railway to the right and the Buxton Road railway bridge can be glimpsed as well as a signal. There is some sort of gantry just above the church roof; could this be at the pithead ? Is that Whaley Hall faintly visible to the right of the reservoir ? I suppose the chimney must be Goyt Mill although it appears to be too close to the church. parabuild attached the following image(s):

From Fr Jamie
Whaley Hall
Dear David,
What a pleasant suprise, it is so good to see pictures of Whaley Bridge, from the past and I am sure that many people out their, have got a fine selection that they may like to share with us all on this forum.
David do you know what year the picture was taken ?
Do you think it was around 1910 perhaps.
The picture also shows the Hall as you had thought.
Best wishes
Jamie
