It is quite often forgotton that although the Armistace was signed in Fochs Railway carriage in Compegnie Forest at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month which ended fighting on The Western Front, the negotiations with the Germans continued long into 1919, with the first meeting of the British peace committee not until the 9th May and the treaty of Versallies was not finally signed until the 28th June 1919 formally ending the War, which is why there were no celebrations until the official peace day celebrations on 19th July when every City, Town & Village in the country held their own events.

Also the world was at the same time through 1918 - 19 facing the Spanish Flu epidemic with 228,000 people dying in Britain alone, and a world death rate estimated at around 70 million.
