As a resident of Bings Road, Whaley Bridge I have recently taken possession of the deeds to my house. I was fascinated to read that in1938 (along with 3 neighbouring houses) it was sold to three men who were appointed as trustees of 'The Loyal Offspring of Truth, Lodge No. 1378 of the New Mills District Independent Order of Oddfellows (Manchester Unity Friendly Society) - the lodge having its registered office at The Swan Inn, Kettleshulme. The three men are named in the deeds as
George Herbert Boothby of North View, Kettleshulme
Levi Pennington of Brook Bottom, Kettleshulme
Inkerman Edward Hill of 33 Macclesfield Road, Whaley Bridge
Then in December 1947 the minutes (Resolution 6) of the Independent Order of Oddfellows Manchester Unity Friendly Society
Offspring of Truth Lodge Kettleshulme appointed
Inkerman Edward Hill
Robert Harold Boothby (Smithy House Kettleshulme – roadman)
Joseph Arthur Jackson (Glenworth, Kettleshulme – nurseryman)
as Trustees of the Lodge. In October 1954 the trustees then sold the 4 houses and the story of the house then becomes much simpler to follow.
The really fascinating area for me is 'The Loyal Offspring of Truth' as detailed above. A quick internet search has revealed nothing. Can anyone help with any information at all? Edited by user 31 December 2010 20:58:51(UTC)

A little bit of information for Allan who started this thread:-
George Herbert Boothby had a workshop behind the Bulls Head and his son took it over later.
Joseph Arthur Jackson was a nursery man on the right hand side of Paddock Lane which runs down from the old Post Office.
Inkerman Edward Hill used to live at the 6th house from Macc. Road on the row that is directly opposite Clover Chemicals at Horwich end.
Levi Pennington lived in one of the two houses he built next to the Paddock Lane Chapel at Kettleshulme. His brother was the landlord of the Bull's Head and later his nephew Arthur Pennington took over the pub. Edited by user 03 January 2011 15:24:27(UTC)
