Hi,
I attach a scan of a rather interesting item which I have been lent in order to put on the forum.
It is an engraved brass plaque, which was discovered some 25 years ago while clearing an old tip in Bingswood.
It shows on the front, presumably, the original Uniting Church, and is engraved with the words " The Link - Whaley Bridge Uniting Church Including Fernilee & Kettleshulme". There is nothing on the back. I have looked carefully for scratched letters or dates on both sides but cannot see anything.
Apart from the main building, which no longer exists, and on which the Wesleyan Chapel is now sited, a cottage is shown, now also demolished, which appeared to sit in what is now the garden of the Shepherds Arms.
Does anyone have an idea what date the plaque might be? The Wesleyan Chapel has a date stone at the top for 1867, so I presume it must predate that. Did the old Uniting Church move to the right, then absorb the Wesleyan chapel later on ?
Cheers
