The TW on the side of Fernilee Hall stands for Thomas Williamson. He lived in the Hall and owned the Gun Powder Factory which was in the Goyt Valley.

I am glad someone answered that question.I thought it might have been the stonemason who built the Hall.

I did search on T'interweb but could not find anything myself.

Rosemary I applaud you

Rosemary,

Thanks for answering the TW question for me.

I felt sure it couldn't possibly be Tupperware, Tomorrows World or Tiger Woods.

Thanks,

Radar

Thomas Williamson is my husbands Great Great Grandfather and we have been driving around Fernilee today to try and find where he lived.  Can anyone tell us how to get to this place etc?  Thanks

two ways past Shady Oak Turn right through the Gateposts this is a private road to the Hall but all residents use it you will see the back of the Hall on your Left hand side and the old Coach house on your Right  but narrow and not much Parking down there.

If you are good on your feet go down the original road into Fernilee  -  at the end of Elnor Lane walk down the sideof Ivy Cottage its a steep hill though  past Rock Cottage on your right under the Railway Bridge  and you can see the front of Fernilee Hall on your right hand side unless the hedges have grown so much havent been down there for a while.

Good Hunting

Nothing specific about Rock Cottage, when I was delivering newspapers there as a youngster it was occupied by Miss Machin, who was well known as a breeder of Cairn Terrriers and it was never the best kept house in the village.

1901 Census gives Robert Marks living there but as a Servant and Groom born Ireland so it could have still belonged to Fernilee Hall estate.
