Attached are a couple of photos that might be of interest. They were passed on to me to put on the forum.

During the Second World War, the Whaley Bridge Home Guard was based in New Horwich Road, presumably in the drill hall. An officer, Mr Waller, was transferred from Kent to Whaley Bridge to take charge of the home guard. The family lived in Far End Cottage , Fernilee. The picture shows Mrs Waller at Far End Cottage prior to its modernisation in 1954 , and the invoice/receipt shows the cost of the removal from Kent to Whaley Bridge.

Cheers

Jon.
