Sorry if this has been answered before, but does anyone know why the "Botany" was so called? |

A very brief explanation is as follows, some people may enlarge on this:-
When the first explorers went to the south of Australia they found it was a beautiful habitat for plants (ie botany).They named it Botany Bay. The cotton from there was brought to the UK for processing and the name must have come with it.

For many years, before moving to Macclesfield Road, and actually seeing the factory sign, I thought it was called "Botney" for that is how I always heard it pronounced.
I suspect I may not have been alone in this! |
