Good Evening all

This years event planning is underway. It will take place over the second weekend in June - 8/9/10th.

The Meerkats are booked.  Last year we set a standard that will be difficult to follow but we have some new additions to our ever expanding committee, notably:

Recently retired Rick Heys, who should need no introduction joins us as Boat organiser.

And

Adam Robinson who is our new Saturday evening music co-ordinator.  Adam has already helped secure an exciting act (this news is so hot that I must tell my committee first).

Join us on Facebook and Twitter

Shortly we will be holding our AGM which will be open to the public-forward thinking new members of all ages are always welcome.  We particularly want someone to develop our Arts activities also people with marketing and grant aquisition skills.

More news soon

Cheers, Barry

Well,

She has done a US tour, played at the O2 arena, BBC Maida Vale and Abbey Rd, is supporting Joan Armatrading on her UK tour and now will be playing the W3 main stage in the canal basin Whaley Bridge on June 9th.

Aha the same Lucy Spraggan who was at the Railway not too long ago, so I hear. A band i'm familiar with called Winterfylleth are a good Black Metal band only across the hill in Castleton probobally not W.W.W material, but I look forward to the Lucy Spraggan set and everything else come this Summer.

You check out Guitar George he knows all the chords
Mind he's strictly rhythm he doesn't want to make it cry or sing
And an old guitar is all he can afford#
When he gets up under the lights to play his thing.

I'm sure that most of you will be aware of these lyrics and the person that Mr Knopfler is refering to is our guest on Saturday 9th June 3 pm ish

I hope you will give a big Whaley Welcome to Mr George Borowski-ex Sad Cafe etc etc

Cheers

Evening all

I had a constructive meeting with British Waterways this morning at the Canal Basin and the future is looking a lot brighter for one of the High Peak's premier events.

The stones will be moved from the barrier but not from the grass.  Vehicle access has been granted.

We will be installing crowd barriers to stop revellers from falling into the canal in front of the main stage.

We are  seeking permission to maintain the West side of the TSW as a volunteer group.

Now we can get on with the hard work.

Feel free to help out.

Cheers

Barry

And for the canal boat enthusiasts, Whaley Bridge Film Group are putting on a free showing of the 1945 classic film Painted Boats at the Uniting Church at 4pm as part of the W3 Weekend.

Saturday 9th June at 4pm:

Painted Boats (1945) U

Filmed in 1945, with Britain still at war, it is ostensibly the story
of the lives of two families who work and live on cargo-carrying canal
boats. The young woman on one of the boats is attracted to the young
man working the other boat. We follow their romance. We also follow
many aspects of life on the boats, which then had barely changed since
the canals were built.

Running time 61 minutes

Tea, coffee and cakes available from 3.30pm

The event is free but please book your ticket at whaleyfilms@hotmail.co.uk or on 07531 982995

Just booked a climbing wall for Sunday 10th at the Canal Basin another first for W3

The Friday acoustic night will happen for the second year-The renowned Club Acoustic in Buxton-also appearing at the Buxton Fringe Festival will be hosting and the talented Linda Simpson ex Magna Carta may make a guest appearance.

I hope this will inspire our local talent and artistes to particiapte in what is becoming one of the High Peaks premier events.

All arts genres are invited to participate.

... by the way - I have it from the horse's mouth that the photographic competition will now NOT be going ahead.

Latest attraction for Sunday 10th June....birds of prey.  We are expecting 10 or 11 magnificent specimens.  Fortunately the Meerkats will have left by then.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank my committee for all the hard work they are doing behind the scenes to give the town its biggest weekend of the year.

There is much still to do, not least three full days in June

If anyone - new in town or born and bred wants to get involved with a great team of people dedicated to giving everyone a good time, promoting the town to visitors while having a laugh........      w3@mobelec.co.uk

Cheers
