A Taste of Honey (12) 1961

One of the defining films of the early 60s British New Wave. Jo (Rita Tushingham) is an awkward, shy 17 year old girl living with her promiscuous alcoholic mother (Dora Bryan) in the grey, bleak tenements of Salford. Desperately longing to simply be loved, when her mother’s latest boyfriend drives her out of their apartment, she spends the night with a Black sailor on a brief shore leave. 96mins

Homemade cakes available from 7pm at each showing

You can make reservations for any of the film showings in Whaley Bridge by emailing us  at whaleyfilms@hotmail.co.uk or by visiting www.buxtonfilm.org.uk

This is one of my favourite films!

The author Shelagh Delaney died last year.  She was a pioneering writer of this kind of gritty drama.  Check out her obituary at www.guardian.co.uk/stage/2011/Nov/21/shelagh-delaney-taste-honey-writer-dies.  There's also a link to an interesting article about her by Jeanette Winterson.
