Hi,

My thanks to Paul and Sue Charnley , who sent through this document along with some other images which I will post. Paul was born on Jodrell Road, but now lives in France.

This is an official guide to Whaley Bridge, printed around 1946/47 by Whaley Bridge Urban District Council, and makes very interesting reading. The population has risen by around 3000 since then.

The advertising in the booklet provides a useful reference of which shops were present at that point in time.

Cheers

Jon.

I found another slightly more recent guide, from the early 1950's I think. I was't sure how to scan it on to the forum, so hopefully the link will work.

Download Whaley Guide.docx (7.4 MB)

Hmm, don't think it has worked. I did it as a word file and a pdf. Any suggestions anyone?

Otherwise is it OK to e-mail it to JonG?

Sorry about my old mum using the cover of the first , old guide to check her pension on , but the telephone number on the early mill advert always amused me ...!!!
