A new archive which may be of interest to some members. Every issue of the "Commercial Motor" magazine from 1905 to 1912 may be read online. There is also a keyword search which returns 23 articles when "Whaley Bridge" is entered. I have yet to read the articles so cannot comment on the content.

Thanks David
Only had a cursory glance but so far I've found a few little gems concerning long gone firms once based in Whaley. The archive seems to go right up to present day editions. |

Good afternoon Lady M. I don't blame you for wanting to keep dry but I am pleased to hear that the poster caught your eye. The poster is promoting the Furness Vale History Society meeting next Tuesday. We would be delighted if you could join us.

Hi Parabuild, Thank-you for replying I am unfortunately working that night as I was last night, when I drove through Chapel-en-le-frith there were signs up that the Market place was closed, I looked to my left & outside the Roebuck was a very old coach, likely I would say from around the turn of the last centuary. Unfortunately I couldn't stop, did you go to see it & have you any information about it? I didn't notice anything in the Buxton Ad and would have thought it would have generated some news! Lady M.

I think they may have filming for this new BBC series with John Simm. Just a guess though. |

Sorry I missed the coach in Chapel, Lady M. I would have liked to have seen that. Pity that you are working on Tuesday, perhaps you will be able to come to a future meeting.

Commercial Motor Magazine has been published weekly since 1905. The magazine contains articles about commercial road transport including lorries, buses, vans etc. The archive, with the exception of a few missing editions has been digitised and for a limited period, access is free. There is a facility to search by keyword or by date. The latter method will allow you to read the magazine page by page. This a superb historical record and fascinating to browse through.
