During the late 50sand 60s if you went on any of the estates around Whaley Bridge you would find H.G.V. lorries parked outside the drivers homes( long before the operators licence came into force.) In particular Shallcross Estate there would be as many as six lorries parked up. I have a few photos of the type of vehicles that in those days were a modern fleet.The photos which I have are not a Whaley Bridge firm but to start the thread off has anyone got photos of Whaley Bridge haulage contractors. ie. J.F Mellor. Robert Brookes. R.Mellor.S.Crompton.

I'm clutching at straws on this one, so please forgive the quality and content of the photograph! (Assuming it was Rose Queen day).
I am fairly certain that somewhere in this house is a better photo of a Whaley wagon but I haven't been able to locate it yet.

Wonderful photo of the Bennet & Jackson lorry.It was probably carnival day in Whaley Bridge. Bennet & Jackson (forgive me if you already know) were subsidary of the Bleachers Association and their factory was the old Mevril Bleachworks which is now a housing estate.

The photo is of lower Macclesfield Rd which used to be known as hay bottom I will not go into hay bottom to much but I believe it was something to do with the laying of the foundation when the road was built or updated. The cart showing the letters ACK would be I am almost certain the milk cart belonging to Mr Slack of Reddish Farm. They had a milk round but i only rember them having a vehicle but I do know they used a horse &cart in the old days.

The lady in the photo is Mrs Winterbottom who lived opposite where the cart is .

Yep! That's definitely Win ! 
I suspect that the Bennett & Jackson's wagon was driven by her husband, Jack.

Will certainly have a look, although there's bound to be someone else in them !
Which is 15? I'm not sure if the numbers run consecutively ie 20, 21, 22 etc or 15, 17, 19, 21, 23 etc. Was 15 in the block where there was a shop either end? Seem to remember that the shop by Goyt Road was run by someone named Barbara who used to live a bit further up the road before she got the shop.

15 Lower Macclesfield Road was the cottage by the river and bridge , directly opposite Botany gates, on the stretch of road at the traffic lights and before Goyt Road. Dont spend a great deal of time on this. I was just interested when you said you had photos of that area, as i would be interested to see what the place looked like 40 or more years ago.

Now Frankie, that's a wonderful photo, but you must try and be a little clearer in your descriptions. I read your post and eagerly viewed the photo, expecting to see magnificent Shire Horses!! Imagine my disapointment!
