I was just  looking through the News section On The WB website and it seem there has been no news since June, In fact the W3 event. What happened to a review of the carnival perhaps? Surely some budding news hack could concoct something? I was busy marshalling on the Whaley Waltz that weekend so I didn't get to see the parade but surely some of the highlights were worth a mention! Indeed anything else we might need to know?

It was the 137th anniversary of the great Goyt Valley Flood which roared through the Gunpowder Mill causing damage to the Mill itself, ruining most of the gunpowder, swept away the footbridge and tramway including the iron rails.

Like you Tyke I don’t know if there were any celebrations this June in Whaley in remembrance of this event. What a pity.

I also have an idea that it may just have been the anniversary of the laying of the Foundation Stone at the Mechanics Institute. But one of our Councillors will know better and let us know for certain.

I’ve got to tread carefully here in mentioning, in two consecutive posts, Gunpowder and the Mechanics.

Well I suppose it’s not November just yet but it does rather feel like it.

Now don’t go getting any ideas Silver Surfer. That’s if you haven’t been shot already for treason.

Well there may not be cellars as such but the library is there and doubtless with an abundance of no smoking signs!

Could I be Guy Fawkes?

(Sorry if the above question causes any offence.)

Of course you can Fedup I can't think of a better man for the job. However R. S-S may want that job for himself but I'm sure you can sort it out between you, after all Guy did not work alone.

No fighting over who lights the blue touch paper though.

I will be avoiding the Mechanics on the 5th November call me picky I know.

When Guy Fawkes was telling his chums that he was going to blow up the Houses of Parliament, one of them asked when he planned to do it.

'Bonfire night' came the reply
