Does anyone know if the hill to the south of Buggy, west of Eccles Pike has (ever had) a name? It's the one at SK025811 (and http://www.openstreetmap.org/node/3072364089). My map puts it at 325m, which means it towers over the village.
[My first post here, be gentle!]

I wouldn't normally comment when I don't know the answer. But since you are new to the forum I thought I would bid you welcome and wish you seasons greetings.
As far as we - my wife and I - know it has never had a name. Perhaps it would be fun to invent a name. My suggestion would be "Eccles Hill". That is consistent with its position above Eccles Road and introduces some confusion, almost mandatory in country names, with Eccles Pike. Judy suggests "Top Spinney" because of the curious circular enclosed copses on and near the summit.
It is a surprisingly strenuous climb from Bugsworth and a shame that one cannot get to the top without trespassing. |
The optimist believes that Whaley Bridge is the best place in the world to live. The pessimist fears he might be correct. |

Season's greetings to you too Dave.

I like that suggestion a lot. But I wouldn't dream of editing the OSM entry to reflect this new name.

To keep livestock out and promote natural regrowth.

Probably to protect the saplings from sheep. |
