Well it has cost £50k and over two years for the Transhipment Warehouse (TSW) project to grind to a halt. The Feasibility Study has come and gone (that's the £50k). It was unfinished according to the later paragraphs and there have been no advances for months.

A Final study has been received by Whaley Bridge Town Council (WBTC) and High Peak Borough Council (HPBC) but has yet to reach the true public domain, your eyes, and both the relevant officers of British Waterways (BW) and HPBC have just or are about to change their jobs due to massive reorganisation of both these large bodies. BW say that they are now unable to talk to HPBC about the project and presumably vice versa.

The Bingswood / New Bridge Project and the TSW restoration have now been firmly linked together by the potential funders, Derbyshire Development Agency (DDA) and so the whole rejuvenation of Whaley Bridge seems yet again to be on hold. This linking is despite the fact that the new bridge project consultants, Malyan Broadway, stated, in public, on more than one occasion, that there is no link and that the TSW project could go ahead without any effect on the Bingswood Industrial Estate/ New Bridge Project. There is no other need to make this link.

Despite the fact that the real movement of the TSW project towards reality was made long before the Bingswood/New Bridge Study started the unexplained delays have now enforced an almost complete stoppage due to the merging of the time scales.

Community aspirations are once again 'on the deck' and the prospect of a Whaley cinema, practice hall for dance and bands, an outdoor market, a large meeting room, a concert venue (indoors and out), a tourism / accomodation centre now seem to be approaching the horizon just like the new bridge did a generation ago.

It may soon become like    rather than a cause for . Has anyone got the answer?
