That's very interesting RB.
Unfortunately, with my rather senior eyesight, I can't really make out the subject of the wall paintings, but it will be interesting to follow the progress of the investigations. Edited by user 20 October 2009 18:34:09(UTC)

I thought it looked rather like someone with a spade trying to bury a horse in a hole, with a row of silver horseshoes in the foreground. |

Well in that case R.S-S and Parabuild will be banging on the Jodrell Arms door to get a better look. Edited by user 21 October 2009 15:20:32(UTC)

Indeed I shall not be knocking on the door to the Jodrell or any other door for that matter in the search for Old Silverheels, Fedup.
But do you know what my old friend?
I have a strange and strong feeling in my water that the old steed may turn up rather sooner than we all thought possible.
That is all I can say at the moment, Fedup.
But you may want to watch this thread very closely.

I might just add, Fedup, that gentlemen with metal detectors have been at work and a discovery may have been made.
I do not think any further revelations will be made until the position regarding treasure trove has been made clear.
So you may have to unbate your breath just for now.

I'm not trying to be silly here, but with regard to the Jodrell paintings well................. well it looks very similar to an old photograph of my grandfather stroking a hippo., out in Africa - the likeness is uncanny but why should this same picture be on a wall in the Jodrell? A confused Dora

Dear Fedup,
It would appear that we have been on the receiving end of a very distasteful and elaborate hoax.
If you look on the thread ‘Old Silverheels’ you will see a very amateurish photograph of what appears to be a horse’s legs protruding from the ground.
Last week I got an email from someone who I do not know, it was from the same person who sent me the photo of the jumbo jet landing in Furness Vale, and I have no idea how this person got my email address in the first place.
The latest email announced that due to reading about our beloved upside down horse a couple of blokes armed with the latest metal detectors had been looking for the poor creature. And what’s more they had come up trumps and found the steed.
Then we get a contribution from Mr G Jackson stating that the horse is located at the side of the Corner Shop roundabout where the ambulance parks.
Well I’ve been down this afternoon and I really could not believe my eyes; somebody has ‘planted’ four horses legs in the grass verge and the shoes have had kitchen foil taped on to them.
If this is supposed to be a joke it is in very bad taste. Well it can’t be anything other than a joke but my word it has brought the standards of this forum down with a bang. I think JonG needs to look at this.
A piece of history unique to Whaley Bridge and the perpetrator of this deed has dragged the very name of our village down with these actions. We have all become a laughing stock. What will people driving past think? It beggars belief.
I mean four plastic horse’s legs adorned with tin foil, stuck out of a piece of lawn that was only mown this week by the way. The world’s gone mad.
I mean really. Really.
R. S-S
George, if you are reading this do not go down there. I know of your fondness for Shire Horses.

My dear friend R.S-S!
This is most disturbing! Having only arrived back in Whaley this evening I have not had an opportunity to view this dreadful sight. I shall be up early tomorrow to go and see the abomination!

I think the plaster painting in The Jodrell looks like that of a bull fighter going over the horns of the bull for the kill.
When was Bull Fighting stopped in Whaley and where did it take place?
Further information to this column please.

I think the person who went to the trouble of planting the upside down horse legs by the roundabout has a truly fantastic sense of humour.
I didn't believe it. I went to see. I couldn't stop laughing. Brilliant!
Cheers

I agree with you Cllr Jon those legs are riotous. When Gibson took me to see old Silver we both exclaimed, "Big, Bad, Bertha!" This was the name of our enormous cob that we had several years ago. One winter's day, some letters blew out of our postman's hands and he foolishly ventured into Bertha's field, where the letters had landed. It was funny at the time and even funnier now as we think back and remember how she chased our postie round and round the field, nipping at his post-sack. After we rescued him, I brought him in and sat him by the fire with a hot, sweet cup of tea laced with some of my 'magic' recipe. Half an hour later he was right as ninepence, happy, beaming although a trifle giddy! Ahhhhh those were the days when you could turn a bad experience around.
