I am researching my family tree and have come across this old photo and wondered if anyone could recognise anyone on it. On the mount , which is badly damaged it says "Wesleyan School Whaley Bridge 1904   -   Joseph Woolley Head Master"

I believe that my ancestor Sydney Edmund Boothby, is the third boy from the right on the back row. He was my mothers uncle, and was killed in the first World War.  Sydney was one of 3 boys including Richard and Fred , my grandfather. They were recorded in the 1901 Census with father Mark and mother Margaret (nee Milwain) at Oddfellows Row. I think this was near  the present day Springbank but would appreciate if anyone could comfirm this.

Welcome to the forum Brendan and thank you for such a crackin' picture, what a good start !    I hope you have other pictures to share.

What lovely kids ! "Miss" looks a bit stern though They look like a early primary children. The outfits are lovely - the boys with their sailor collars and the girls with their pinafores. I have (somewhere) a very similar picture but have been unable to find where I stored it for safe keeping !!!      When I do manage to find it, it will be posted !

Thank you for the lovely picture - keep 'em coming !!

Superb photo Brendan. I'm sure someone on here will be able to help you with your queries.

As for "Miss" - I don't know about stern, I think absolutely terrifying would be more to the point!

Hello Fedup,

I have to agree with you she does look a bit scary but of more concern is the boy on the same row as her; third one in.

He has something more than a mischievous look on his face. Is it because he is slowly garrotting the little girl in front of him?

Hello R.S-S,

Yes, I see what you mean. In fact, if you look carefully at all of them, there are very few who look, well....normal, if you see what I mean. For instance, first row, all of, but particularly the first three right hand side.

Bless!!!

Location: Whaley Bridge at heart

As I am from old Whaley Bridge stock I have checked the photo carefully and can see some of my features in nearly all these delightful children and because of this I find offence with the last 2 posts.

In that case Mr Jackson, I hope you have a good thick paper bag to put over your head when you go out.

Or you might frighten the horses!

As usual straight to the point, Fedup.

Very well said indeed.
