Hello**,

You are certainly not treading on my toes - am very happy to see these photos having been smartened up.  In the bowling photograph, I have found out since posting that the gentleman on the right is my grandfather, who died when my Dad was only seven years old.

I suspect that this same gentleman is in the picture of the football team (the Rodney photo !!!!) on the back row in the centre, or the gentleman on the left with the moustache.  This man is John Samuel Jones (son of the "Bridge Sreet Barber" of previous posts).

Thank you for "tidying up" these photographs, it is much appreciated.

Just to put some names to the photo on posting number 9.

third from the left on the top row is Arnie Cooper. He lived on Chapel Road in the long row opposite and below the Board Inn.

second from the left on the top row is  Gizzy, or Harold Lee(Whistling Fred the posties brother) he worked at  Britannia Wiremill at Bugsworth. He used to go to cinemas etc. fitting spring seats.

Holding the ball is Freddie Derby (Leo's brother) he died aged about 15 when a lorry crushed him in the school gates at Whaley Bridge. The lorry was driven by Wilf Lowe (Father of Arnold Lowe)

Fourth from left on the top row is George Hill (Not our George Hill) but George who lived on Chapel Road. He married Lily Fletcher who still lives there. They had 4 children. Peter Hill is the Macc. Road postman. Lily's father drove the lorry  for the Botany until he retired and then George took over. When George retired  his youngest son Martin Hill carried on the family job until the Botany closed.

Hi G.Jackson

On the original posting my Dad thought the people on the photo were as follows:

Teacher: Mr Presley

Back row L-R: Donald Locket, Fred Lee, Arnold Cooper, George Hill, George Reekie, Gilbert Mellor (?)

Middle row: Sam Shaw, Alan Bradbury, Alan Collier

Front row: Charlie Allen, Frank Derby, Bill Jones

My Dad isn't too sure if he is right about Gilbert Mellor - if anyone knows any different we would love to know. He thought that it was Freddie Lee because they were the same age.

Dad is also on the photo.

Love the way the photos are being tidied up, by the way !! Thank you.

Hi G Jackson and Gnatalee,

Could i ask one of you to repost the photo which you refer to in post 9. Because the photo you are referring to has gone, it's difficult to reconcile photo with detail.

Not your fault I know.

Cheers

Jon.

Hello

Would you please put the photo of the Bridge Street Barber back on please and the one of John Samuel Jones. I would really like to see these photos as they are my relations.

Many thanks

George,
you could never do anything wrong!
Just look whose posts they are and that will answer your question.
I can't say anything more or I could get banned from the forum.
