It's unbeleivable how given the hell he must have been through, that he can write about it in this way. 'We had a rough time of it all day, but we kept sticking it' This was with fixed bayonets attacking German lines! Mrs Macbear probably never anticipated the environment in which her cigarettes were to be smoked. The horrors this chap must have endured.
