There is a postcard on eBay entitled "Market Cross, Buxworth" <http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=250729941449>  It doesn't look like Buxworth to me and if it is really c1910 then I would expect it to be "Bugsworth".  Can anyone identify where it really is?

I cannot place it, but as you say Buxworth came a lot later than 1910, It was almost called after the local schoolmaster and the local vicar, Precott Towers. Luckily Bugsworth became Buxworth in about 1929 ish.

The postcard is un-posted so there is no information on the back.It is a black and white photo that has been coloured.

According to Google there is a Buxworth in Trafford Manchester.

I have just enlarged the card considerably and have come to the conclusion that the text printed on it is HUXWORTH not Buxworth

Next step look for a place called Huxworth I suppose

Thanks: 3 times

It's changed a little since 1910 but the 14th century butter cross is quite recognisible in this Google Street View capture.  It's neither Buxworth nor Huxworth but it's not far off.

Well, David did the hard work, and left a clue with identifying it as the Butter Cross. The rest was just creative googling, "Butter Cross", "Worth" and factoring in the characteristic colour of Cotswold stone (Brixworth is just about on the eastern boundary of the Cotswolds - an area I spent many a happy day in during the 70's and early 80's)

I contacted the seller on ebay to tell him about the Whaley Bridge CID. He passes on his thanks to everyone.

I have very vague recollections of a night in a pub around there involving a Transit van, a touring theatre in schools company, chicken in a basket, M&B brew XI and a bunch of Ford motor company executives.

Well found!
It does look remarkably unchanged in 100 years.

There was another postcard on e-bay entitled "Pond Close, Buxworth" It turns out that this was Brixworth too. So thank you all for solving both mysteries.
