Hi,

I have been passed some interesting copies of photos relating to Wards quarry on Paddock Lane, off Elnor Lane.

Until 1938, this quarry was the source of much local building stone, and it is said that all the houses up Elnor Lane from number 30 to the top were built with stone from this quarry.

I have magnified the faces of the people shown working at the quarry, but it is still difficult to make much out. I am trying to see if i can get hold of the originals to get a better copy.

Cheers

Jon.

Hi,

I have now rescanned the photos. unfortunately, the images are copies themselves, so there is not a substantial improvement in resolution. However, I attach them anyway.

Here is an 1885 map roughly overlayed onto a modern aerial photograph showing the Paddock Lane quarries:

Hi Rockbanker

Sorry I'm a bit late in saying thank you for the map but I have been away for the weekend, but thanks for the info.
