Hi everyone,
I'm not sure if this is the right place to post this...
My mum was evacuated to Whaley Bridge with one of her sisters during WW2. I know it's a long shot but I wondered if anyone here remembers any of the children who came to stay or even shared a home with them?
Many thanks for taking the time to read this,
Sarah.

Hi & Welcome Bagpussarah, if you look on the History forum under evacuees there has been much put on by parabuild & others, my own mother was evacuated here from Southend, it may help if you knew where she came from as there were various articles in the Press at the time, good luck with your research. Lady M.

Hi Lady M.
Thanks for your reply and your welcome.
My mum was also from Southend and returned there after a few years at Whaley Bridge! I did have a look through the previous forums but missed the posts about evacuees. I shall go back and have another look.
Many Thanks,
Sarah.

Hi BagpussSarah,
If you post your mums surname it may help trigger some memories - You may also want to post in the local history section of this forum. where this sort of topic is usually avidly seized upon.
Cheers

Hi Sarah Some of my family were evacuated here too. If you can tell us the names & ages (at the time) of your Mum & Aunt, maybe someone will remember them?

Thank you for putting that link on here - it makes very interesting reading. I have read "The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society", as mentioned by a contributor to the page, and many other books on the occupation of the Channel Islands and have always found the stories recounted by the local people very moving.
Few people on the mainland are aware of how dire the Islanders situation was at the end of the War, food was very scarce and they were near to starving before the Red Cross Boat SS Vega arrived with supplies. There are many books about the occupation of the Islands, telling the personal stories of residents, their struggles under the occupation etc, and are very well worth the read.
