Pete Dunn – contribution to local music and bands. I don't think there's a band in the village he's not played in.

John Golpin – for what he has done and is doing at Whaley Bowling Club. He's rejuvenating the Club especially with the introduction of poker on Thursday's.

Al Madina – by far the best curry house in the village.

Shepherds Arms – top pub.

I would second most of those-Mr Dunn is indeed an unsung hero worthy of an MID and Bella's is best newcomer

I would add :

Stan Pearson Motor engineer -on the bings-established many years and setting a standard few can follow

The veg shop for making a renewed effort to survive in the face of adversity

Goyt wines-best independant off licence for miles-Bramhall  is the next nearest

The White Hart-the building!  that is .  For putting up wih so many landlords attempts to run it and never knowing if it's coming or going.

While we are all being positive-it must be the sun :)-don't you think the new florist has brightened up the basin a bit

Oh and Tony  at the Goyt deserves a mention for his efforts in keeping a traditional village pub going

We are extremely lucky - We went to Hathersage on Sunday for their Well Dressing and Gala Weekend. What a waste of time that was. Nothing happening, no sense of community activity or involvement. Not even a nice cup of tea in the Methodist Church Hall. So very different from Whaley (as an aside, I would strongly recommend the afternoon teas at Bradwell Methodist Church during their Well Dressing - state of the art).

There are so many good things going on in Whaley it is difficult to know where to start - But Footsteps has to be near the top of anyone's list, a truly great example of successful community enterprise - Well done everyone. The Shep's, The Goyt and the D&P are outstanding pubs that draw in an interesting cross-section of Whaley people ( I have a friend from Germany who flies in regularly for a pint or two at the Shep's). Those who work to make W3, the Rose Queen Weekend, the Well Dressing, the superb firework display and all of our other community activities a success deserve our praise. The Medical Centre is first rate too. I could go on for hours.....

I'd rather live in Whaley than Hazel Grove because everytime I have the misfortune to drive through there (which is most days) the only people I see are nasty young shavers and chavs with their hands down the front of their tracksuit bottoms!!!
In the evening you have to negociate your car around the people walking from pub/bar to pub/bar mainly using the road as the pavement and always smashed!
Long live Whaley!!!!
