Good morning R. S-S and a very happy New Year to you.
It's great to see you back on form with another fantastic photo which I don't think has appeared on this forum before.
I must confess at one time I was under the impression the Old Tankard was located in the building that is now the chemists. However, as you have already stated, after extensive research by forum members we now know the Old Tankard was situated on Bridge Street.
Your photograph is very interesting and it would be no surprise if the door with the arched head was the entrance to the Old Tankard.
This photo doesn't provide conclusive proof of the exact position of the Old Tankard but we are definitely going in the right direction in our quest to identify the location of all pubs in Whaley Bridge.
Please keep up the excellent work R. S-S.

It's a bit overexposed. I have toned it down a bit to bring out some of the detail.

Hi,
Anonymouse has been in touch and has provided the following two pictures of Pat Phoenix at work in the Navigation Inn in Buxworth 1969.
Pat Phoenix played the part of Elsie Tanner in Coronation Street, and was also the mother-in-law of Tony Blair.
Cheers

Good morning buggyite.
Firstly I must thank Anonymouse and Chairman Jon the Whaley One for providing and posting the two photo's of Pat Phoenix in the Navigation Inn at Buxworth.
buggyite, I can't be sure but I don't think the lady behind the bar with Pat Phoenix is Betty Driver.
Paul Charnley posted a photo on the General Discussion forum of the Male Hen in February 1971 when Betty Driver was behind the bar.
It would be interesting if that photograph could be put on this thread so a comparison could be made.
This is a request to the forum moderators. Would it be possible to put a copy of the photo posted by Paul Charnley, post 30 in the “Pub Closures” topic onto this thread?

Good afternoon tarboat and buggyite.
Thank you tarboat for posting Paul Charnley's photo on this thread.
buggyite, after closer inspection of the photographs it is evident the lady in the dark glasses in Paul Charnley's photo is Betty Driver.
However, even though the photos were taken two years apart I do not think the lady behind the bar with Pat Phoenix is Betty Driver.
Do any of your Buxworth connections know who the mystery women is?
