Just one other point before anyone asks. It is apparently not possible to reuse the play equipment elsewhere in Whaley Bridge. The moment it is removed from the ground, it becomes unfit for use anywhere else because it does not have the latest safety accreditation on it. This means it cannot be installed anywhere else, even though it was perfectly ok while it was where it was. Another one of the wonders of modern bureaucracy and legislation for you. Grrr

Cheers
Jon.

Such red tape should be immediately addressed by the town council, as this is a waste of public funds. If the equipment isn't fit for use once removed it should be condemned now & the area sealed off like a crime scene. Ofcourse it's re-useable, and would no doubt be put to further use in another area for further enjoyment. Why do the powers that be pass such barmy nanny-state jobs worth regulation? It should be challenged before the scrap metal-man in the white van hears of this, he'll be done there digging up those dangerous swings & heinous roundabouts while singing through his irritating p a system. Bonkers!

Do we have any more news on a timescale for the play equipment? Summer holidays is upon us and there is no sign of a single spade mark. Maybe they're waiting for the wet weather to return.

They are all down at the Apathy club considering what to do with the scrap metal haul. Flaming joke project management in High Peak Council.

What's happening with the park? The war memorial is boarded up the children's play area is fenced off and the rest of the park resembles an abandoned building site.

The condition of the Memorial Park is yet another example of how inept the Labour controlled High Peak Borough Council are. It's more than three years since nearly £500,000 was awarded to revitalise the park and still it's in a terrible state. Under the control of Cllr Godfrey Claff and leadership of Cllr Caitlin Bisknell the project has been an utter shambles. HPBC have failed to keep Whaley Bridge Town Council informed of developments and Cllr Godfrey Claff's statement that they will do all they can to minimise disruption is a joke. The Cenotaph has not been accessible for the last two Remembrance Sundays and the rest of park is in a worse state than it's ever been. We will wait to see if HPBC tell us how the £500,000 has been spent but as they have previously refused to respond to requests from WBTC it's unlikely we will ever know where the money has gone. The lottery windfall was a once in a lifetime opportunity to make significant improvements to the Memorial Park but the incompetence of the Labour controlled HPBC would indicate the money has been frittered away. History shows Labour politicians are very good at spending and wasting money that's not their own. And Caitlin Bisknell the lady from Shropshire thinks she should be our next MP!

Really not clever Whaley Laner in hijacking the thread to make a party political protest. This sort of comment is why so few people bother to post anymore! Shame on you!!!
I have asked several times (on this forum) for an explanation as to where the £478,000 has been spent, yet I never received an answer. I think it's a scandal that almost 12 months on, the play area is not yet finished: we can only hope it's finished in time for THIS YEAR'S summer holidays!!!

I received the flyer in the free paper the other day which details news from the town council and it says "Rededication of Whaley Bridge War Memorial Sunday 11th May 10.30am in Whaley Bridge Memorial Park".

Additionally the park is closed all day today (Friday) for resurfacing according to Facebook.

At least it seems some progress is being made which is good news.
