I am told by a Bridgemont resident that the cottage in the photograph below was once a pub, The Swan, although not in living memory. I have never heard of any Bridgemont pub other the the Dog and Partridge. Can anybody enlighten me ?

It may well show up on one of the pre 1901 national census returns. There are several long since closed in New Mills that do. The oldest one perhaps the “Bridge Tavern” located 25 & 27 “Bridge Street”.

Umtali's posting "Possibly Interesting" has prompted me to take another look at the 1851 census for Bridgemont. I notice that a Thomas Kirk was a beer retailer, his entry was independeant of the Dog and Partridge so could he have been licensee of "The Swan" ?. The cottage in my photograph appears to be later than 1851 so perhaps there could have been a beerhouse elsewhere in Bridgemont.
