Under the Topic Heading “Another Shop Closes in Whaley” Bartak mentioned Black Sheep Antiques, Old Road, Whaley Bridge. I assume this is a former shop but the only antique shop I can remember being on Old Road is Nimbus. I do recall that when I first came to Whaley Bridge my wife said to me that the town is full of antique shops, estate agents and pubs but in my relatively short time living here a number of these businesses have closed down.
Could someone be kind enough to tell me where Black Sheep Antiques was located and when did the business close or has Nimbus Antiques changed it's name from Black Sheep?
I have placed this posting under a new heading because, as Frankie and Techy have stated, the old thread has gone totally off topic after being hijacked but a couple of relatively new elderly members.

Black Sheep Antiques, a Damo Wild enterprise, used to be in the yard behind Teddy Wild's butchers shop. It is now on Market Street close to the reptile shop but has no sign and never seems open, although there were some bits and pieces of antiques in the window the last time I looked. |

The old curiosity shop is open for business on a Wednesday morning or for an hour at Saturday lunch time (whilst the butchers is closed)-however although items have a price tag, they are all "precious things". Just think of it as a museum with free entry.
Cheers

When the Shepherds Arms closed for a period of time there were allegations that a lot of the furniture from the pub made it's way across the road to Black Sheep Antiques. Some of it returned but the majority didn't. The landlord at the time was selling fixtures and fittings which, apparently, he was not entitled to.

Hmmmm-what can I tell you about Dora and G Jackson -I think one needs to get on the same wave length as the composer of a cross word in order to solve it and this is indeed a conundrum. But I think that I was perhaps educated at the same school as the pair of them so am able to read between the lines.
Dora was allegedly a composer of those cyptic clues that were sent by the BBC after the opening bar of Beethoven's fith - you know like-"Mother hen is coming home to roost" which told the French resistance that the waste was about to hit the fan and to put the kettle on as we are on our way-but we are bringing out own leaf tea and strainer. The Germans were apparantly too dummkoph to interpret her cunning and did not bother to double the sentry and look upwards after hearing these strange messages, merely thinking that we would all be buttering bread in anticipation of fresh (American) eggs.-not those nasty dried eggs Dora!
I know she is keen on militaria and have seen her looking in the window of the little "museum" that never makes a sale on Market Street-I think it may be a dead letter box. She has been too modest for too long and is at last (under the freedom of information act) able to enjoy, in her twilight years some recognition.
I might not be in Tune and don't want any disharmony but her Gibson is a weight around her Neck a Strapping lad, a bit highly Strung but is able to strike the right Cord and should do so more often without waiting for a "bandfest" The Key to all this is in the italics for the benfit of novice cryptologists-see how easy it is now. He is younger than he appears and his middle name is Les and that is all I know of Gibson, although I have noticed cryptic messages appearing in other new member forum posts. I can't help feeling that Dora is up to her old wartime tricks and is setting me a challenge!
Pleased to be able to help, Nigel

Very interesting OTHBNFA.
It would appear Dora Gibson, G Jackson and Silversurfer are one of the same!!!
Who is the real person behind these pseudonyms ?
Lets have a look at the clues that have been given:
Strange northern dialect.
Use of up to date colloquialisms.
Hens, eggs, fleeces.
Steak, sausage, chops, puddings and potted meat.
Viagra.
Pram race.
Oatcakes and bacon.
Three Stags Head at Wardlow.
Cryptic clues.
Keen on Militaria.
Seen looking in the Black Sheep Antique shop on Market Street.
Born locally.
Middle name Les.
Tune, Gibson, Neck, Strap, String, Cord, Key.
Collection of guitars.
Guitar mad.
Wants a Whaley Band fest.
Farmers from the New Mills/Hayfield/Birch Vale area.
Butchers shop.
Old Road.
Who will be the first to unmask the interloper ?
My monies on Lord Cornflake as he was seen talking to "Dora" very recently.

Well, Over The Hill and Should Be Far Away and to you Willy, I think you are both start, staring, raving bonkers. However, you make me sound mysterious and wonderful so..... carry on, it's doing my street cred no amount of good - according to Gibson. Of course I am a Silver Surfer, I told you that ages ago but it has been only until now that Gibson told me that it is a term for an old person who uses the computer.
Have you both ever thought about taking anti-depressants for your condition? You both sound in a bad way to me and I beginning to worry about you both, even though I don't know you. I think a natural cure could be St. John's Wort. Please try it as I think you are both teetering on the edge of....................... who knows what?
Take care boys, Dora

I'm really confused.
I always assumed SilverSurfer was a woman - why else would s/he be so interested in what I was wearing?

That was too easy for my captured enigma machine Bartak and also libelous there is surely no way HE would impersonate a lady

Over The Hill And Should Be Far Away, senile demensia comes to mind so please........................ seek help! However, if this all makes you happy, what is the harm? Take care and get well soon you special people. A concerned Dora.

Silversurfer, what drugs are you on????? Are you from the Starship Enterprise? What is this nonsensical jargon you choose to write?
As for a Silversurfer imposter, I think you are the BIGGEST TWERP ON THIS FORUM. So go home, take a paracetamol and bother us all no more you silly person! Go on................ get gone! You are totally ridiculous and make no sense at all. Leave the forum and go and watch some telly, as I'm sure it will do your head no end of good...! Hmm. I'm beginning to wonder about the sort of mushrooms that grow in the fields around Otter Brook. |

Other members of this forum have identified Silversurfer, G Jackson and Dora Gibson as pseudonyms of the same contributor.
We now have a situation where someone, allegedly under the influence of some strange mushroom mix, is talking to himself via this Forum.
I don't know what the Forum Police will make of all this.
Over to you CllrJonG and Cllr Mrs Brunt.
