What is going on with the traffic lights? Last night at 6 pm the queue from Macclesfield for the lights went all the way into Cheshire. The night before it was beyond Linglongs. Despite the roadworks, the main problem seems to have been the timing of the Horwich End lights.

I've submitted an enquiry to DCC, who look after the traffic lights.

Cheers

A had a similar occurence going over Disley Top last Tuesday evening on my way to football. I left my house on Whaley Lane a couple of minutes before six o'clock and came upon standing traffic at Mudhurst Lane (Moorside), and it was after 6.30 when I got through the A6 lights. I thought that there had been an accident on the A6, but it was running freely. A neighbour of mine had a similar occurrence on a different evening last week.

By the way, more tyres ditched near the murder stone on Disley top I see.

Looking through my window at about 1.00pm today there was a green jacketed workman scratching his head with the traffic light control box open. With a bit of luck and a lot more head scratching they may be working better now.

Hi Bob,

Hope your ok,

I was going to Hospital on monday morning when  I noticed the tyres,                                    their seems to be 2 - 3 areas along the rd where they have been dumped,  (mostly  in Cheshire) .

It is a shame that the Council don't go around the garages and do a monthly check,  -                a bit like dustbins refuge collection !!!!!!

Anyway in the meantime hope all is well,

PS   how is your St Georges Day events going for  April  23rd ?

Best wishes

Jamie

The traffic lights at Disley have been a nightmare at evening rush hour this week. Queues coming down the hill to Disley have prevented anyone being able to get up to the hill to return to the hallowed land of Whaley Vegas.......but if they were a little more considerate and thought about it.....there would not be a problem despite the light sequence not being correctly timed.

More tyres dumped - no surprise there!!!

I've reported it to HPBC.

The tyre dumping is becoming a regular problem.

Keep your eyes open and  if you see anyone doing it see if you can get their numberplate. Needless to say please dont tackle them about it. They are unlikely to be friendly. Would also be useful to try and get an idea of exactly when it happened.

Cheers

Jon.

I strongly suspect they are being dumped in the dead of night as doing that in broad daylight would be too much of a risk

At least the lights at Horwich End seemed to be back to normal last night, so thanks for the intercessions of Jon, the scratchy-head man and perhaps Fr. Jamie.

Any problems on the A6 around the Disley, New Mills and Furness Vale area are probably due to the fact that the road from Chapel to Hayfield is closed at the moment, and will be until some time middle of February. This means that all the traffic is now being diverted to the A6 and New Mills.

Just pray they don't decide to start roadworks on the A6 while the Chapel to Hayfield road is closed!!

New Mills Reporter Here.

Yes traffic has been bad the last few evenings in New Mills, mainly the road from the Swan into New Mills, which figures really.

Oh I am sure the powers that be will try their hardest to close another road. They always seem to put roadworks on the A6 and Marple Road into Stockport at the same time

Last Sunday, they DID find a way to muck things up - in Hayfield (at the "other" end of the diversion) United Utilities decided to dig up the road outside the Kinder Lodge or Railway Hotel as it used to be. They erected their temporary traffic lights just by where the sliproad from the Chapel direction on the A624 joins New Mills Road.  This ensured that the junction of New Mills Road and the Hayfield bypass remained comprehensively clogged up all the time they were there. Brilliant co-ordination and co-operation as usual!

Worry not Rockbanker, my friends and I have had a wonderful idea. Because we are old and left on the shelf (so to speak) we thought that elderly as we are and with a little help from the youngsters who are doing nothing but drugs etc., locally, that we could................................ go down, along the line of traffic, selling hot cup-a-soups, crisps, sandwiches and cigarettes etc., and put the profits towards any number of fantastic local charities. We would just need the backing of some of the big businesses to initially buy the goodies. What do yous all think?

I think that's a fantastic Idea Dora, right up until the point when the lights go Green.

Gibsons smart intervention at that point might be required because the road is a tad narrow.

Cheers
