Thanks R. S-S

I visited Haddon Hall must be about 40 years back don’t recall what the living rooms contained but strangely still remember detail about the kitchens, much more interesting than faded furnishings and ornate chairs,

Hello Holly,

I’ve not seen you on-line for a while so I hope you are still carrying on with your project.

When you do next look in go back to your last read post on the subject otherwise you may miss out on some info.

In the meantime I post what I believe is the highest view, looking down on the Hall. It may help you with the layout.

Hi!

For some reason ive stopped receiving emails letting me know about updates to the forum so I've only just thought to check it! Ive pretty much finished the history part of my project now and have made it into a booklet, ive now moved on to looking at present day analysis. Really like that last photo you've put on, its helped me figure out the chimneys a little better. Do you know where abouts the steps down to the cellar are located roughly within the ruins? are they in the northern part of the hall? it would be nice to know where the construction would have gone underground. I've been researching stone today, i know that it is millstone Grit that the Hall was constructed out of but there are several varieties sourced in Derbyshire, but from the ruins i'm thinking its a pink/grey variety, although its hard to tell because there so dirty!

David, did you build the model using the elevation drawing i drew? I have a sketch up model of the ruins too if you'd like to see it...

Holly.  I have of course worked form your elevation to build the sketch up model.  I have used photos as well.  I would like to see your model of the ruins although I am sure that it will show up the errors that I have made !   You can send the sketch file to parabuild@btopenworld.com   I'll let you have my files when complete.  Here is the latest version of the model.

Hi Holly,

I am seeking your permission to include your impressive artwork of Errwood Hall on our developing Website. I am of course aware that it is a student project and will understand if you prefer not to include. If you agree it will be displayed on the Research page along with parabuild’s work.

Cheers

Hi**,

I'd be pleased to have it on the website but would it be ok if it went on after I finish my course, I'm finished by mid June. Would be a little more relaxed after that point and will be able to do what I want with the work after its been marked. Hope thats ok.

P.s I'm curous, it there someone called Peter Noone or do people mean no one has complained about the photos?? bit confusing. I like all the alterations you do to the photos, it saves me some work from that point of view atleast!

Holly

Holly it was a day or two before I figured out the “Peter Noone” name, it was in fact a typing error by CllrJonG it should have been ” Peter no one” it was jumped upon by members.

We shall look forward to including your work later in the year, good luck with the exams.

Hi**,

The  'Peter' bit has nothing to do with me. I actually wrote 'Noone', rather than 'no one' .  If we were trying to learn more about the anonymous poster who first introduced Peter Noone, we might guess that he was of an age when Hermits were cool.

Cheers

Jon.

Good Morning Councillor,

If I can refresh your memory you said noone has objected; and I replied that what had it got to do with Peter Noone any way.

You are quite correct I am of an age to remember Herman and the Hermits. In fact I saw them perform live on stage at the Poco Poco club in Stockport.
They put everything into it but were pretty poor really.
I seem to recall escorting a young lady and she too was – no we’ll not go down that road.

Incidentally Jon did you get the emails I sent to you about The Botany?
If you have any additional information I would be very interested and thank you for what you have told me so far.

A little aside that has nothing to do with this topic but has to do with Peter Noone. Local Councillor to be,  Jimmy Pollitt ( in his white Rolls Royce days) was approached by Peter Noone's agent before they had their first hit and asked him to sponsor the group. JP said no as they wouldn't ever make it. I wonder how much he would have made if he had taken on the band. Something tells me he could be into something good........G.J.

I simply do not believe that, Glenda.

Why would Councillors or indeed Councils sponsor 60’s Pop groups?

And WBUDC (that is pre JGTC days) would certainly not have wanted to be associated with good old, clean cut Herman.

Surely they would have sponsored The Zombies or The Mindbenders.

Good afternoon Jacko

Jimmy Pollitt's connection to Peter Noone is indeed news to me. I see R. S-S doesn't believe you but then again R. S-S initially didn't believe we once had a fountain in Horwich End.

Ex councillor Pollitt's whole future could have been changed if he had accepted Peter Noone's agents offer. I know the former councillor deeply regrets the incident in the Railway when he was alleged to have hit the then landlord, Alan Pearson, over the head with a bar stool. I wonder whether this was the rock and roll coming out of him or perhaps frustration at missing out on a lifetime changing opportunity.

Such behaviour from a councillor could never happen these days. Just imagine, it would be like Cllr John Swift going into the Shepherds and bonking Susan Greenwood with one of Taxal Church Bells or, Cllr David Lomax going into the White Hart and clubbing Sean Pyke with his cricket bat or, Cllr Jean Horsfall-Brunt going into the White Horse and cracking Philip Cottrell with her vote labour sign or, Cllr Jon Goldfinch going into the Goyt, drinking strong ale and then going home to compose an early morning poem which he would then publish on the local community discussion forum.

You really are walking a fine line here, Pal,

I would not be surprised to see you taken to the Pleasure Land very shortly.

I had totally forgotten the Railway bar stool incident but you have obviously been around a long time now and you are blessed with a good memory.

I have put the photos that you asked for in the library earlier today.

As you are an Horwich Ender like me I shall concentrate on Horwich End photos for the next week.

I think you may be in for a surprise but then again probably not. We may have to start with our very own skyscraper: the Ivory Tower.

Keep posting HE you keep me very amused.

The Poco-Poco Club - my word, that brings back memories..........!

R.S-S, you will be telling me next that you were a regular at Bredbury Hall as well!!

Never had the pleasure of seeing Hermans Hermits, but did see the Beatles.

Ah, those were the days!

Help!

Hi everyone, I had a review yesterday, sort of a practise for the final thing which is four weeks away from now! the tutors that were reviewing me fell in love with the history of the site, in particular one loved the description of the cellar stairs with the names of the wine written onto each step... one big issue they had was that i did not have a detailed understanding of the layout of the hall, other than just working from descriptions and snippets of information that is...

Basically, it means that to do as well as I can I need to get hold of a copy of plans of the building. I'm really really keen to get hold of them and am obviously willing to come up to the area if anyone knows of anywhere I can get a copy of them from, eg local library etc.

Plese help!

from Holly
