Hi there,
I wonder if any local experts might be able to help me; I'd like to know more about the history of Shallcross Wood, especially during the 1950s - 1970s. I'm very interested to know (sorry if this is a daft question) if the land is owned privately or by some sort of forestry commission.
The area that I'm most interested in runs between the unusual stone stile off the main road out of Whaley Bridge, down the steep embankment to the river at the bottom, and also between there and St James' Church, Taxal. I know from the photos I have that paths and gates have been added since the 1960s and some large trees have been cleared. I'd also be interested in comparing my photos from that time with any others that might be in existence. Many thanks indeed,
Cal.

Hello, Cal,
If you look back several pages in the history side of the forum you will find a thread all about Shalllcross Wood.
Currently it is on page 15.
Hope this helps.

Here is another little problem.
In building the index I have noticed that the oldest history page is numbered 16, I recon it should be 1. as it stands when a new page is created the last page will I expect become page 17.
R.S.S has in fact advised CAL that Shallcross Wood string is currently on page 15 of course once we have a new page that will be incorrect. (I think).
