That's a lovely photograph - the brickwork looks pristine !! Am a little intrigued by the wooden contraption on the side of the building which resembles a mini-house on a stilt !! What do we think that was for - pigeon post?

Am I right in thinking that this Post Office was the same building which was Alec Morten' newsagents in the early 60's?

How old do we reckon these buildings are - they look quite new to me.

Best wishes

Gnats

Hello. Gnats,

Brickwork, Dear?
Oh dear a wonderful example of local coursed stone and it is referred to as brickwork. Well never mind I can’t darn socks.

The little wooden box, or house on a stilt as you call it, I think is a first aid box.

Lots of these were around but were longer because they contained a stretcher. I can think of at least 4 off hand.

The Post Office used to be a plumbers supplies I believe but after the post office moved further down Willow Terrace it was bought by Cloud Wine as an off licence.

I don’t know when Willow Terrace was built but I can certainly find out for you; I’ll investigate this evening.

Morten’s grocer’s and newsagents were also further down Willow Terrace.

I was talking to Alec just the other day and he is doing fine as is his elder brother Neville who ran the grocers part of the shop. He is now 85 and looks good.

Happy Christmas to you and yours Gnats.

Hi,

My thanks to Paul and Sue Charnley , who sent through this image along with some other images which I will post. Paul was born on Jodrell Road, but now lives in France.

This is a pre 1950 picture of Market street Whaley Bridge. Not sure what date, but it looks like it was taken at around 3.45pm on a blustery day :)

Bings Road looks quite exposed.

Cheers

Jon.
